Wood Headboard Makeover•
Posted on November 22 2016
At the end of last week, I had been scrolling through Craigslist to see if there were any great finds. I stumbled across this beautiful wood sleigh bed and I was hooked! Saturday morning we took the drive to snatch it for a whoppin' $60! Ever since we got married, we had a mixture of different DIY headboards but none I was ever 'in love' with. I love using old, natural pieces in rooms and that's what I fell in love with this piece.
When we brought it home I wasn't loving the high gloss dark wood and had dreamt of a lighter, more natural farmhouse look. It was then, I took the hand sander to the headboard and started seeing it transform.
Right away, it began to transform and it was the exact look I was headed for. After some super intense sanding and about 2-3 hours later, we had success!
You can see the drastic before and afters from the finished gloss to a rustic natural piece.
I love how natural our new headboard feels and one of my favorite parts of this bed is the small detailing on the ends. I now have my dream bed that just feels right.. and for $60! Score!
